New York, NY-June 14, 2012- Almira Wilson of Léonché will present her collection at Africa Fashion Week New York, Saturday, July 14th. AFWNY, produced by Adirée, will take place July 12-14 at the Broad Street Ballroom in New York’s Financial District.
Born into a background saturated with art, culture, and style, the Sierra Leonean designer Almira Wilson strives to expose the world to the unique essences of various cultures. With that belief and vision in mind, she founded Léonché, a new and upcoming fashion label, in 2006. Léonché was named after the French translation for lion. The lion exemplifies a strong, independent and courageous spirit- which is everything Almira wants the label to be. By relying upon her rich cultural heritage to design international garments that exhibit fabrics from Africa and Europe, she has been able to bring new and creative ideas to the marketplace under Léonché.
When asked where her muses come from, Wilson says, “My family roots are from all over the west coast of Africa. So, as I am designing I pull ideas from each culture to create each piece of work.”
AFWNY feautes runway shows hosting 21+ designers from various countries in Africa and those of the African Diaspora, exhibitions, and industry networking events. Opening designers Francis Hendy, Korto Momolu, and designers like Mafi, Attolle Collection, Geraldo Fashions and others will showcase.
