Event Review: Africa’s Luxury Group Adiree Showcases Africa’s Fashion Designers During New York Fashion Week

New York City, September 9, 2014– Showroom Adiree showcased the latest fashion styles and trends from some of Africa’s fashion designers on September 5 at 7 PM EDT. at the Vogt Gallery.

Guests walked through a display presented by Issa by Issa that featured leather pieces littering the floor, luxurious leather bags hanging on the side of the walls and leather jewelry on mannequins with shirts bearing fashionable inscriptions.

Wine and a light dinner was served at the presentation co-hosted by Barbara Garnes, Lifestyle Creator of Sohe Designs. Her African decor and Maasai (Kenya-inspired) dishware were featured as designers and press mingled and took photos against the background of a blue carpet.A sample of Africa Fashion Week’s designers gave New York a peek into past and future work.

 Spotlights shone overhead as models stood on white, cubed platforms showcasing each designer’s work. The following designers were featured:

Anaba Wisdom Chidiebube of Weiz Dhurm Franklyn

Wisdom showed last in the presentation. His collection consisted of elegant white dresses that combined glamorous femininity with a hint of modernity. Colors painted some of the dresses, dramatically yet majestically. 

 

Hazel Eki- Aggrey Orleans of Eki Orleans

Orleans’ pieces featured colorful patterns and designs. From a ruffled bikini to elegant and beautiful summer dresses, her designs featured a collage of materials combined to make pieces that looked artistically enticing.

Hilda Mauya of Dahil Republic of Couture Fashion House

Mauya showcased her long elegant couture pieces. Her couture pieces showcase a woman’s curvaceous assets. Her line infuses contemporary fashion with rich African accented fabrics like Ankara and Kenta combined with Linen, silk, Chiffon and Dry Lace creating a form fitting and elegant piece.

Khadijah Mouh of Morocco Caftan New York

Khadijah Mouh featured her custom designed caftans in various styles and colors. The designs ranged from the flowing, loose gowns that had a regal air about them to the more casual, playful styles for the light-hearted soul. Her hand embroidery detailing could be seen on every piece that was on display.

Tiagbe of Kososhi

Tiagbe’s pieces were showcased at the presentation. The collection featured everyday pieces that showed a rich ensemble of patterns and colors. The collection was all about beautiful print patterned dresses with plenty of versatility.
