African Headwear for the Modern Woman

One of the most quintessentially African pieces in African fashion are the pieces worn on our heads.  Yesterday, I (Kim Mensah) blogged about the exhibit on African headwear at the Dallas Museum of Art, and today I am going to blog about African fashion to be worn on your head that is a little more wearable.  When I think of traditional African fashion I think of printed fabrics, and big statement headpieces that project an air of royalty.  A lot of these over-the-top pieces aren’t practical for the modern woman, so in an effort to give a nod to traditional African fashion while keeping it modern we can tone it down a little with smaller pieces like headbands that still have a strong African flare, but don’t obstruct the view of everyone behind you.   This headband I found on Etsy from the designer House of Ola, is the perfect way to rock the African headwear in a more understated way.  The rosette is big and colorful enough to make it a real statement piece, but not over the top and out of control.  This could definitely be something that every woman could work into their Fall wardrobes and try out this season.
